Winning with Wendy
Encouragement and Support for Weight Watchers Members (June 2002)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Greetings!
Welcome to Winning with Wendy!!
I just got back from a whirlwind vacation to the
Northwest! I went to San Francisco, the Redwood
Forest, the Oregon Coast, and saw friends and family
along the way. It was a great time, and I'm already
planning for next year!
Unfortunately all the activity in my life the last two
months including has done a number on my waistline. It
seems that all of my clothes have shrunk!! Okay, okay,
I've gained weight and I'm now about over my goal.
We all go through setbacks. Sometimes we are in a
new situation, like traveling, which makes it difficult to
stick to our plan, or sometimes we are just plain not
motivated to go on. It happens.
This month this newsletter is about setbacks. And
since we all have them, I'm going to ask you to give me
your best ideas. What do you do when you travel or
are faced with other out of the ordinary eating
occasions? Please email me your answers and I will
include them in the next newsletter.
I've also included an email that I received from a
member who has gone through a setback as well. She
gave me permission to share her letter with you. After
you read it, if you feel led, write a response to her and
email it to me. I will forward it to her and share some
of the best answers in the next newsletter.
As for my setback, I am back home and writing in my
journal, counting points and getting exercise. I'm not
going to let a setback get me down. Neither should
you.
Until next time, I wish you much success!!
Wendy
Help Me! I've Lost My Motivation!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I received this letter from a member who is having a
setback. How would you help her? Email your replies
to me and I will forward them to her and print them in
the next newsletter.
Hi Wendy:
I am a long term (19 months) Weight Watchers Member
who is desperately struggling to stay on track and get
to goal. In November of 2001, I was 11 pounds away
from my 100 lb total loss goal. Since then I have
continued to gain slowly and am now down only 75 lbs.
I am headed for disaster and cannot seem to get
myself back on track.
A little background - in November of 2001, our leader,
(who was the best) moved on to pursue other
endeavors and that seemed to be my turnaround
point. I tried to accept our new leader but somehow,
it just wasn't the same. In early February I lost my
Mom to cancer; hence, another setback. I seemed to
have lost interest in my Weight Watchers meetings, my
treadmill, and counting points isn't happening these
days. I am terrified - I just don't want to go back to
257 lbs.
Any suggestions to help me get back on track????????
Sincerely yours,
Seeking Help

8 Ways to Get Over a Setback and Get on with Your Life
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Determine the cause of the setback.
2. Take responsibility. Who's holding the fork?
3. Develop a plan to deal with the specific setback.
For example; when I feel sad I will call my best friend.
4. Prepare ahead of time. Traveling? Carry yummy
and light snacks with you like fresh fruit, granola bars,
pretzels, crackers, flavored water.
5. Forgive yourself. It's over. You can't go back.
Just move forward.
6. Get some support and encouragement from your
Weight Watchers Leader or a trusted friend or family
member.
7. Set goals!
8. Make it fun!
Featured Recipe-Spaghetti Squash Casserole
Here is a perfect summer recipe that makes use of an
oft-ignored vegetable.
10 oz package frozen chopped spinach,
thaw & squeeze out
water
1 medium )2 lb) spaghetti
squash
1 cup part skim ricotta
cheese
½ cup egg
substitute
½ tsp dried Italian seasoning
2 cups reduced fat, reduced sodium pasta sauce
(healthy
choice)
8 oz shredded low fat mozzarella
cheese
Cut squash in half and remove seeds. Place upside
down in baking dish w/ ¼ cup water. Cover w/ plastic
wrap w/ one corner open. Microwave until tender,
about 5 minutes per pound or until strands can be
removed from shell. Spray 9x13 pan w/ cooking spray.
Arrange squash on bottom. In bowl, combine spinach,
ricotta, egg substitute, seasoning and half of the
cheese. Pour over squash. Top w/ pasta sauce,
sprinkle on remaining cheese. Spray top of cheese
lightly w/ cooking spray and bake covered at 350 for 30
minutes.
